Re/al Love is a Guru Dutt–inspired love story for the modern age — a nostalgic yet stirring journey through love, fantasy, and self-discovery set in the 1960s. The story follows a 21-year-old girl, Asha enraptured by the charms of a dashing film hero, Om Prakash. Her days are consumed by dreams of him, her heart set on the idealised romance she sees on screen. But reality intrudes when she is married to a man, Mohit who, though kind and earnest, bears no resemblance to her cinematic idol.
Initially detached and yearning for her “reel love,” she is surprised when her husband begins to emulate her beloved actor. Through his quiet determination to win her affection, she discovers the depth of his feelings for her and begins to see him in a new light. Yet, an unexpected revelation shakes their fragile connection: her husband confesses that his initial attraction to her was because she reminded him of his favourite film star.
In a touching climax, the couple confronts the duality of their desires—finding that their love, though born from fantasy and film, has become something real and profound. Through tender moments and heartache, Re/al Love captures the journey from infatuation with fantasy to a genuine, shared intimacy. The final image of two flowers coming together symbolizes a love rooted not in perfection but in acceptance and authenticity.
